“Translation as an intercultural communication tool”

On September 28, Azerbaijan Youth Translators Association (AGTA) organized “Translation  as an intercultural communication tool” conference to celebrate its first anniversary and the International Translation Day.

The conference that brought together over a hundred translators, linguists, educators, writers, public figures and journalists for the first time in Azerbaijanç kicked off with a video clip portraying the activities of the organization implemented within the past one year. Then followed the opening speech of the conference from Ismayil Jabrayilov, chairman of the Azerbaijan Youth Translators Association, who welcomed the participants and briefed them about the mission of the organization, its goals and planned activities. He explained that the organization aims to facilitate communication among translators operating in Azerbaijan, to shape the public opinion about the true value of translators work in Azerbaijan and to represent translators’ rights ad interests.

The opening speech was followed by three panels, including “Translation as intercultural communication”, “Translator training in Azerbaijan”, and “Literary translation” where the participants discussed various problems in relevant sections.
